IOREX conditions water as it flows through a patented graphite chamber. The graphite’s natural electromagnetic properties ionize the water as it flows through the IOREX device. Water pH is immediately drawn to neutral and the conditioned water becomes less corrosive.

How it Works

IOREX is a multi-benefit, one-time, quick installation that requires no maintenance or electricity to operate and is proven effective for at least 25 years.

IOREX helps alleviate the pain and costs of emergency repairs by protecting pipes as well as reducing the need for pipe jetting and the use of chemical inhibitors.

It significantly saves on maintenance expenses, removes corrosion, rust and scale.

The Process:

Prevention and Removal of Rust

• Static electricity is generated by friction between flowing water and a proprietary carbon electrode; electrons are transferred to water and dissolved oxygen
• Water becomes ionized
• Electron losses by ion within pipe wall are stabilized: Fe is not oxidized to Fe 2+
• Full rust protection within 4 weeks after installation. Existing rust is also reduced with use over time.

Formation of Scale

• Scale results from the deposition of mineral complexes of metal ions, such as manganese, iron, magnesium and calcium.
• High concentration of ions, changes in pH, and variations of water temperature can cause dissolved metals and non-metals to combine and precipitate (salt out) onto the interior pipe surface

Prevention and Removal of Scale

• Scale-forming particles change structure due to an adjusted chemical and ionic environment created by the device.
• Turbulence and an electric double-layer promote formation of orbicular particles that flow smoothly through plumbing without sticking.
• The Ionically-charged water exiting the IOREX device gradually dissolves and dislodges existing scale from the pipe’s inner surface.

Pipes Cut

• Pipes should be cut at a right angle using specialized cutting machinery
• Avoid foreign materials from entering the pipe or the IOREX device
• Pipes should not be expanded or bended

Joints Connected

• Screw Type - devices that are 1 inch/25 mm or less
• Flange Type - devices that are 1.25 inches/32 mm and larger
• Damaged ends (joints) should not be joined
• Joining of pipes should be done by the insertion of the spigot part into pipe socket
• Rubber rings or gaskets should not twisted when inserted
• Align shaft center and add lubricating agent so as to avoid twisting rubber ring and gasket and insert them into desired position
• Different joining types for Plastic or Metal pipes.

Weight Support System Added

• Be sure to consider the weight of the specific product being installed (whether vertical or horizontal) both during and after installation. Devices can be quite heavy
• Insulation may be needed in low temperatures to avoid freezing.

Case Studies

Washington Hotel, Washington, DC

Problem:

• The W Washington, D.C. is a historic hotel located at 515 15th Street, NW within view of the White House. It opened in 1917 as the Hotel Washington and is operated by Marriott Bonvoy. The hotel was renovated in 2008.
• Scale buildup on the copper coils caused a loss of efficiency in the hotel’s 4 dynamic water heating unit systems. This necessitated annual expenditures of approximately $7,200 - inclusive of labor and chemical treatment costs. In addition, management of these issues required time and attention from hotel engineering staff, which could otherwise be spent on other critical items. This test was conducted to ascertain whether IOREX-conditioned water would prevent scale buildup on the copper coils of the hot water loop.

Results:

• The IOR-80 was installed on the 3”- diameter domestic hot water loop. The hotel noticed significant results within months experiencing less build-up and scale in their pipes. Pipes that needed expensive cleaning yearly started performing better without costly maintenance. The hotel also saved on chemical treatments for their water.
• Testing was conducted by engineering staff at the hotel, using the Myron L Company’s Ultrameter II. The test period of 287 days conclusively demonstrated that the installation of the IOREX device in the dynamic water heater system resulted in reduced costs for maintenance and chemical treatments.

Municipality: Pocomoke City, Maryland

Problem:

• The “Heights” neighborhood of Pocomoke City, Maryland has dealt with brown water problems for decades. Since this issue arose, different attempts to address it have been unsuccessful and left residents feeling hopeless. Residents have experienced a multitude of problems from the water issues in the city, from their clothes becoming stained by the water in their washing machines to water fixtures rusting out and needing frequent replacement. Residents resorted to using filters and water softeners, which were ultimately ineffective and needed constant maintenance.

Results:

• The Pocomoke City installed Iorex in February 2018 and quickly saw results in the reduction of brown water. Multiple tests were conducted by an independent lab called Geoscope Environmental Laboratories.
• The initial water tests showed the depth of the problem with the city’s water. Iron content was averaging 2.12 mg/L and turbidity was 9.06 NTU. Less than 30 days after installation, the iron level had dropped 37.74%, well over the 30% stipulated for the pilot project and turbidity had dropped 19.87%. These results show how promising the IOREX technology was after just one-sixth of the initial time stipulated in the pilot project agreement.
